Open Source

Last updated: May 11, 2026

ArkFile is built with open-source software, including Kiwix and openZIM technology. ArkFile publishes corresponding source for GPL-covered application releases while keeping paid content services, account systems, backend infrastructure, and credentials separate.

Application Source

Release pages for these repositories include source archives and checksums corresponding to distributed app binaries.

What ArkFile Charges For

ArkFile charges for curated content bundles, packaging, hosted download infrastructure, account entitlement, support, and update convenience. These commercial terms do not restrict your rights under GPL or other open-source licenses for the application code.

Upstream Attribution

ArkFile Desktop is derived from Kiwix JS / Kiwix JS PWA. ArkFile iOS is based on Kiwix Apple and uses CoreKiwix, libkiwix, libzim, and openZIM components for offline ZIM reading.

No Affiliation

ArkFile is independent and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Kiwix, openZIM, Wikimedia CH, Wikimedia Foundation, Apple, Posit PBC, or other referenced organizations.
