Open Source
Last updated: July 13, 2026
ArkFile's iOS and desktop apps are independent offline-library apps built from open-source software. Application-code rights are separate from ArkFile trademarks, paid content-pack access, hosted download services, account services, and curated content bundles.
ArkFile iOS Source Releases
The ArkFile iOS app's in-app legal screen points users to the source-release location below. A matching source release must be published no later than distribution of each TestFlight or App Store build:
Use the source archive or tag that matches the version and build number of the app you received. If a distributed build's source release is missing or unclear, contact support@thearkfile.com.
ArkFile Desktop Source Releases
A matching source release for each distributed ArkFile Desktop build must be published at:
License Boundary
ArkFile iOS and Desktop application code is licensed under GPLv3-or-later unless otherwise noted in the matching source release. The GPL and other open-source licenses give you rights to inspect, copy, modify, and redistribute covered application code under their terms. ArkFile commercial terms do not restrict those app-code rights.
ArkFile trademarks, names, icons, paid content access, backend services, download URLs, signing credentials, and curated content bundles are not granted by the app-code license.
Upstream Attribution
ArkFile iOS is a modified downstream distribution based on Kiwix Apple and uses CoreKiwix, libkiwix, libzim, and openZIM technology. ArkFile Desktop is derived from Kiwix JS / Kiwix JS PWA. Original upstream authors and contributors remain credited in preserved source headers, bundled notices, and source releases.
Public Source Boundary
Public source releases are sanitized snapshots generated from shipped-build commits. They include the covered application source, build configuration, dependency provenance, notices, and release metadata. They exclude private repository history, credentials, signing material, paid content payloads, local AI/model packages, TestFlight artifacts, agent files, and private operational files.
No Affiliation
ArkFile is independent and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Kiwix, openZIM, Wikimedia CH, Wikimedia Foundation, Apple, Posit PBC, or other referenced organizations.
Licenses and Corrections
See Licenses and Attributions for application, dependency, map, and content-source notices. To report a source, license, or attribution issue, email support@thearkfile.com.
